With project manager jobs comes a lot of responsibility and sometimes even some stress. With that said, the job also comes with some perks such as nice wages and benefits. You aren’t usually micro managed as a project manager either, making it easy to incorporate your own ideas and ethics into your work.

However even project managers need performance appraisals in order to stay on track and to even get raises when they are deserved. Many people get some anxiety when it comes time to have their appraisals and in fact would love to skip it altogether. But if you know how to properly approach the situation, you can make the meeting work for you instead of against you.

Be Proactive

If you want to get good reviews from your employer then you want to be sure that you are doing your job to the best of your abilities without a lot of supervision. This means being able to perform your tasks on time and on your own, without having to rely on someone else when you don’t have to. Make sure you understand what is expected of you when performing your project manager jobs upfront so there are no surprises down the road. Being self reliant and capable is a gift any employer would love.

Take Care of Yourself

In order to make a good impression and to be a model employee, you have to take care of yourself at work and at home. This means getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and eating the right foods so that you’ve got the energy and enthusiasm it takes to get the job done right. Practicing stress relief throughout the work day is also a good way to stay calm and keep a level head. This will greatly improve your performance and will in turn reflect on your performance appraisal.

Be Prepared to Talk About the Money

When it comes time to sit down and talk to your employer about your performance don’t be afraid to bring up sensitive issues like your salary, job enrichment programs you might be eligible for, and even promotions you are interested in. If you don’t communicate your thoughts and interests to your employer, they won’t have any idea where you’d like to take your career and this might leave you out in the dust when it comes to getting that promotion you had your eye on.

You Don’t Always Have to Agree

project manager jobs are not always cut and dry. Depending on the company, there are various job duties you might be expected to do. This doesn’t mean you have to agree with them all and in fact, a job performance appraisal is the perfect time to bring up some of the things you might have ideas for changing or making better. You might actually be surprised as to how much you can mold your own job to be the way you want it to be.
